New Arrivals

Ten little piglets arrived late on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. Henrietta is a gilt so this is her first litter, and she's a natural mother, she hasn't squashed one yet!

Wednesday 12 May 2010

It's well and truly bluebell season, so much later than normal as it remains very cold. We had another hard frost this morning and the chickens' water was frozen.
We're busy setting up our pig maternity pen for our next expectant mother Rizzo, it's her first farrowing so we'll need to keep a close eye on her.
I'm also hatching some goose eggs, the geese having failed to naturally hatch anything so far I splashed out and bought an incubator which now has 5 eggs in. However, I'm sure that; like couples who adopt then immediately fall pregnant naturally, that I'll be overrun with goslings before too long!

Dernwood Farm April

We are bracing ourselves for the start of the new camping season, but will it ever stop raining?
Here at Dernwood Farm we're watching the woods bursting with Spring energy, the primroses are in full bloom and the wood anemones are just starting to carpet the floor of our ancient Sussex woodland. The bluebells are a few inches out of the ground now but no flowers spotted yet. We are open for camping from Good Friday and the woods are open to non campers for Bluebells walks.
